KosárbaThe Fortress of Zrínyi-Újvár was built by Miklós Zrínyi, poet and military leader, near the confluence of the Drava and the Mura, on the left bank of the Mura, opposite Kanizsa in 1661. It played an important role in international anti-Ottoman schemes and served as a casus belli for the outbreak of the great Ottoman– Habsburg War of 1663–1664. During the war, after a more than three-week long siege, the Ottoman forces seized the fortress on 30 June 1664. Subsequently, they razed it to the ground.
